At the July Board of Commissioners hearing, the rezoning application for the Spivey Lake project was given a two cycle deferral to provide more time for discussion with the community and make enhancements to the proposed site plan. Our team has since been hard at work meeting with many people in the community to hear their thoughts and ideas about the project, and making many revisions to the proposed plan based on feedback from the community and DeKalb County’s Planning Department. As we prepare to re-submit a revised application, we wanted to provide a summary of the changes that have been made and incorporated into the plans thus far. You can also see more detail about these changes in the presentation below.
We will be back on the zoning calendar in October and November with a Community Council meeting on 10/19, Planning Commission hearing on 11/4, and the Board of Commissioners hearing on 11/18. Please feel free to reach out to us at any time with questions. Spivey Lake Community,
As was discussed on the community call in April, the zoning application for The Cottages at Spivey Lake was submitted on April 29th, and can be found here. The site plans submitted in the application include several changes from the initial version that have resulted from community feedback, as well as civil engineering. Those changes include revisions such as removing the walking trail from the south and west portion of Spivey Lake where adjacent to neighbors, reducing the number of homes, adding additional stream buffers, refining parking, adding a dog park and moving the community garden next to the lake. As prescribed in the DeKalb County zoning schedule, the application will next be reviewed by the Community Council on June 15th, followed by a hearing with the Planning Commission in early June, and a final hearing with the Board of Commissioners at the end of July. In the meantime, we plan to continue conversations with the community and welcome your feedback or questions any time as we are continually looking for ways to refine and enhance the plans. Thank you for your continued engagement. Spivey Lake Community,
